♡ Rant: Plastic Surgery in South Korea ♡

Are physical attributes everything now? Is being "perfect" so important?

In case any of my blog's readers didn't know, I am a South Korean eighteen year old.
In South Korea, plastic surgery/facial reconstruction is a booming business; when I say it's booming, I mean that it's desired everywhere, very much affordable, and easily accessible. Several plastic surgery clinics can be found lining the streets of the cities of Korea.

Personally, plastic surgery is a debatable topic. I honestly feel uncomfortable permanently changing any part of my face because hey, even if I'm not 110% satisfied with my features, I wouldn't permanently alter it. However, if someone truly feels they would be happier with themselves if they had a procedure done, then to each their own.

In Korea, plastic surgery and facial reconstruction is becoming the norm. Changing your features is perfectly acceptable and even positively advertised. For example, you think your jaw line is too wide? You can shave it down, no problem.

Double eyelid surgery is one of the leading/most popular surgeries in South Korea. Most Asians have what is called a "mono lid", or an eyelid without a crease. For as low as a few hundred dollars and less than an hour of your time, you can carve a crease into your eyelid to achieve bigger eyes. More popular surgeries include slimming/heightening the nose, and shaving down your jawline.

Because such surgeries are so accessible, affordable, and culturally acceptable, many young adults in Korea, people even in high school, seek out these procedures. High school students even are rewarded surgeries for performing well in school and bringing home good grades. Crazy, right? The highest reward I've ever received for good grades was a new phone. These teenagers, however, are being gifted plastic surgeries.

If this wasn't bad enough, surgeries in Korea are so positively promoted and advertised. Some celebrities and models will be spokespeople for certain clinics as advertisement. You can even request certain features to be done just like a celebrity's. I could go to a clinic in Korea and request my nose to be reshaped to resemble Miranda Kerr's, Selena Gomez's, or any other celebrity of my choosing. Books with pictures of different eye and nose shapes are even available at clinics so that you can browse through and choose which shape you'd like for your own. So most of the time, you are taking someone else's facial feature shape for your own. It isn't all about just wanting to change your nose shape, you can point at a celebrity and request theirs.

Why is this so acceptable in Korea? Is the standard of beauty even more twisted there than it is in America? I can understand how someone could be unhappy or even self-conscious of a facial feature, but how could a high school girl or boy go under the knife? You're still developing and these feelings of self-consciousness go away as you age (most of the time). How can someone make such a serious decision in their teen years? I can't say that I've never considered surgery for myself, because I have, but I could never act on these idle considerations. Sure, it would be nice to have bigger eyes or a slimmer jaw, but could I really do this to myself without any qualms?

I don't want to judge anybody, anywhere, who has gotten plastic surgery or facial reconstruction. I understand that it's a personal choice and there could be many underlying reasons for surgery, but the main reason in Korea is for beauty. The standard of beauty and the means of achieving such a standard are becoming more and more superficial.

Just a thought that I've had.

♡ MASSIVE HAUL ♡

Hi, guys! Here's just a short post things I got for Christmas! This is really delayed, but enjoy! (I'm still figuring out how I should take pictures for this blog, so this set up may be temporary.)

URBAN OUTFITTERS

I'm obsessed with flannels, and I loved the colors of this particular one so this purchase was a no-brainer for me. I hate how some "flannel" shirts are made of stiff cotton, but this one's super soft and comfy! I could wear it out or to sleep.

H&M

I haven't gotten around to hanging this top up yet, so it's a bit wrinkled, sorry! I loved how simple but pretty this plain black top looked, so I figured I could wear it by itself or layer it up.

This pull-over sweater looked so comfy that I had to buy it. I'd pair this with a pretty skirt!

VICTORIA'S SECRET//PINK

I wanted some loose, long-sleeved off-the-shoulder shirts and VS's Pink had some really nice ones! They look really "blah" on the hanger, but they're amazingly flattering and effortless on.

(This is me wearing the black shirt; I know you can't easily see how it looks, but here's an idea!)

TOPSHOP

Obviously I grabbed this sweater because of the gorgeous detailing around the neckline. But besides that, this top's comfortably snug and the material is super soft.

(Again, sorry for the wrinkles!) This is a cropped, off-the-shoulder sweater that has that mohair type of material! I loved everything about this sweater and planned on wearing it with, again, a pretty skirt or cool bottoms in general. The only downside is that I found an exact duplicate of this sweater in PacSun for MUCH cheaper. Bummer, but I'll just have to make sure I get my worth's wear out of this!

HOLLISTER CO.

I'm trying to stop shopping at stores like Hollister all-together, but I can't resist some good basic pieces (that doesn't have Hollister's logo splashed everywhere conspicuously, of course).  This cardigan is tight in the perfect way and super comfy. I love that the light grey color goes with everything and how pretty the "waterfall" opening is.

AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS

I've been looking FOREVER for a jacket like this: denim torso with sweatshirt sleeves and hood. I love how effortless this is and how I can just throw it on over anything. Also, it's lightweight! Perfect for spring.

ALL SAINTS

Out of all of my purchases during Christmas, this skirt was the most expensive item. But as you can see how beautiful it is, I had to get it. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the skirt's covered in beading with a leather stripe lining the zipper. I plan on wearing this during vacation (I go to Cancun every year), and possibly even dress this down with some simple tops so I can wear it whenever, not just for special occasions. The only downside about this is how heavy it is.

MISC.

LORAC Pro Palette
NYX Butter Gloss in "Creme Brûlée"
Abercrombie & Fitch beanie
"The Shining" novel

I've heard amazing reviews about both the LORAC Pro palette and NYX Butter Glosses, so of course I  bought both to try out. I have to add to the reviews and say that they're amazing!

The A&F beanie was given to me by an aunt and there isn't much else to say about it! It's made from a soft knit material and keeps me warm enough.

I've been dying to watch The Shining movie but I wanted to read the novel before I did; I finally got around to buying it and I can't wait to read it!

♡ My Absence ♡

So, I know that my posts on this blog are super erratic and there are huge time gaps between each post, and I apologize for that. I always say that I'm going to try to update as often as I can and it never works out, much like my many attempts at trying to keep a daily journal (massive failure).

It isn't that I don't have an interest in updating content anymore, I actually really do; I'm just extremely unhappy with my current method of taking pictures to upload onto here. My lighting is awful and I still haven't figured out how to photograph clothing well enough.

I promise that I'll work on it and DOUBLE promise to try to post soon/often! I have so many posts I'd like to do, but simply can't because I don't want to upload anything I'll be unsatisfied with.

Meanwhile, here are some of my recent Instagram posts/pictures I'm in love with at the moment:

I update my twitter/tumblr daily, so if you want to follow me on there, I'll leave my usernames!

♡ Mini Update/What I've Been Listening To ♡

I haven't been blogging much lately and I'm really sorry about it! I've been so busy with school (poor excuse) and other times just been flat out lazy (even worse excuse). I promise to try to consistently write!

Just now, I ordered a few new clothes for the fall/winter time! I feel as though my style is always fluctuating and changing depending on my mood, and lately, I've been into really edgy clothes like flannels/plaids, thigh high socks, combat boots, etc. However, I decided to slightly upgrade my style! I'm still going to stick with edgy clothes, but wear more heels, skirts, and generally more, "classy", put-together outfits. I'm super excited about it and I'll be sure to post tons of OOTD's once I have my wardrobe the way I like it!

Now for my recent favorite music!

Ariana Grande//Tattooed Heart, Lovin' It, & You'll Never Know

As you guys probably know by now, I LOVE Ariana Grande and she's my absolute favorite artist. For me, this album was highly anticipated and it completely delivered. My three favorite songs that I've been listening to non-stop are addicting to listen to and I can't help but always think of how amazing her voice is.

Drake//Hold On, We're Going Home ft. Majid Jordan

I'm not a fan of Drake at all, but I love this song! I heard it when my brother was playing it in his room a few weeks ago and I was immediately addicted. I know everybody loves/knows it cause it's a radio song, but I had to include it in this list.

Justin Bieber//Heartbreaker

I don't even have to go into detail about this song. Amazing.

Kanye West//Black Skinhead

I never thought I'd like anything of Kanye West's because personally, I don't like how he behaves in public and consider him to be totally obnoxious, but I love this entire album, especially "Black Skinhead". Although his personality isn't my cup of tea, he can 100% rap. Even my mom loves turning this song all the way up in the car!

Lorde//Ribs

I'm not a fan of Lorde's song "Royals", but I also am in love with the rest of her album. "Ribs" is chill, beautiful, and amazing to listen to in the car at night.

Miley Cyrus//SMS (Bangerz) ft. Britney Spears

I've been a Miley supporter ever since she started out as Hannah Montana, so obviously, I had to listen to Bangerz to see if all the hype over this album was worth it. My favorite song off of it is "SMS" because it's super catchy and just fun to listen to!

The 1975//The City, Sex, & Girls

I discovered this band through MissGlamorazzi on youtube, and I'm obsessed. Their type of sound is just right for me and I highly recommend this album to everyone! "Sex" is my favorite track.

♡ Movie Review: Pacific Rim ♡

To make up for my lack of posts lately, here's a short but sweet movie review!

I saw PR just yesterday with a friend and I had mixed expectations with it. When I first watched the trailer, I had no intentions of seeing it because it looked like a knock-off Transformers movie, but since then I'd only heard positive reviews about it. I decided to go ahead and see it because I absolutely love action movies.

It exceeded my expectations, and I liked it! I thought the plot was a little too simple and it was completely predictable but watching massive robots and monsters fighting to the death was worth paying to see it.

This movie is about an apocalypse in progress. Giant monsters, "kaijus", were being sent to earth from their own universe to destroy our planet through orders, having done so with other worlds already. we developed fighting robots to defeat the kaijus after learning that "regular" weapons such as tanks, guns, planes, etc. took too long to take them down. The robots, "jaegers", are controlled by two people from their interior by being connected to the actual robot and "drifting" both of the people's minds together, making one mind, essentially. it naturally also had some funny moments!
I thought that was an interesting twist rather than just have two people physically control the robot; their joined minds were needed as well.
I won't give the whole plot away, but it's a movie I'd recommend you see if you like action movies!

I give it 3.5 out of 5!

♡ What I've Been Listening To: 2 ♡

Hi, guys! I haven't had enough time to write about anything extensive because I leave for Cancun soon (2 more days!!) so here's another music post! Enjoy!

Calvin Harris//I Need Your Love ft. Ellie Goulding

I usually never listen to the radio or like any "popular" songs unless it's by an artist that I already love, but I'm obsessed with this song. I've liked Ellie for awhile and I love her unusual voice and this song is so catchy that I couldn't help but keep listening to this on my phone and in the car on the radio! I've actually listened to this song nonstop so much recently that I'm sick of it, but I thought it needed to be included in this list since i've loved it to death.

Paramore//Misery Business & Crushcrushcrush

Paramore reminds me of 7th and 8th grade and I've been listening to these two throwback songs repeatedly over the past week or so. I still love Paramore and I completely appreciate their newest album, but sometimes I just need to listen to their old music and feel like I'm 13 again. I still love it!

Beyoncé//1+1

I think I might've mentioned this in my first music post, but I love beautiful, powerful voices like Beyonce's, Ariana Grande's, etc. I actually only recently listened to this song for the first time and it's an extremely simple song, but B's voice is especially amazing because of it.

♡ What I've Been Listening To ♡

Hi, guys! Here's just a list and description of some artists and/or songs I've been loving lately!

Charli XCX//Nuclear Seasons

Charli's very Marina and the Diamonds-ish, sound wise. I saw her perform this song live this past spring and I'm addicted. Along with this song, check out You (Ha Ha Ha) by her!

Ariana Grande//The Way and Emotions

This song's been everywhere on the radio and I've loved it since I heard the leaked version on tumblr. Ariana has a similar voice/sound to Mariah Carey and this is just a happy, "pretty" song to listen to.

As for "Emotions",  Ariana did a cover on the song originally by Mariah. I personally like the cover better, and Ariana's voice is just beautiful in this song.

Paramore//Now

I've been a fan of Paramore since "Misery Business" released and I bought this entire album immediately when I could. I particularly like "Now" and Hayley Williams is definitely one of my favorite singers to listen to.

Lana Del Rey//Young and Beautiful

I think this song is just perfect. Lana's voice is completely unique, beautiful, and even a little haunting. I meant to listen to this song when it first released but the first time I heard it was when I was watching The Great Gatsby, which this song is basically the theme song to. It's incredibly romantic, but might not suit everybody's taste. I love it though!
